Drive in racking is also called drive through racking. It’s a indivisible and continuous racking system. Pallet locates by depth direction on pallet support rail one by one. This make high density storage come true.

 

Drive in racking use pallet for storage, it’s suitable for single items with large quantity. Compare with pallet racking, it can increase warehouse usage by more than 30%. 4) Material Handling Equipment.

  The loading/unloading job of warehouse is done by material handling equipment. Thus when end customers choose storage racking and shelving systems, he should also consider material handling equipment. Stacker is the most popular handling equipment. Width and depth of racking system is the major factor which affect the model & size of stacker. In other hand loading capacity and lifting height should be also considered.

 

5) In/out warehouse quantity

  Some racking system has high storage density, but turnover rate is very low, which is only suitable for low frequency storage. In these years most end users require high turnover rate to save logistic cost. Thus designer should consider turnover rate carefully

 

 

The design of racking & shelving steel structure is very complex. If the design is not properly, it will either bring in hidden trouble of safety for customer or waste material or increase the cost of customer.

 

The design process is as below:

 

Traditional design is base on manual. It divided to initial design and technical design. Under the premise of racking mechanics, designer should reflect the storage purpose with as less/simple as possible of storage unit. Under reach the reliability and rigidity of system. IE: For high upright frame, we can choose different material thickness for different section of frame, 1.8mm for top section, 2.0 for middle section and 2.3 for bottom section. Secondly, choose suitable beam and post specification to make best design effect and most cost effective solution.

The major key points of racking and shelving system should be as below:

 

1.       Steel Structure.

When we design the size of pallet racking system, we should notice the effective height of room and pillar, the loading capacity and of floor and whether it is aclinic. Also we should consider the position of fire fighting equipment and lighting equipment.

 

2.       Features of product storage(size, weight, qty, sku)

Size and weight is the major points which affect material & strength of pallet racking system.

Storage qty and SKU should be also considered when design the whole racking system.

The estimated quantity should also consider the future growth in the next 3 years.

 

3.       Loading/unloading management.

Usually the 2 points is contrary. That’s is to say, to make high storage density, the loading job will be more complex. Although some special racking could make the balance, but the storage management system is much more complex. Of course AS RS system is a good solution to solve the problem, but the cost is also extremely expensive. Most of customer couldn’t afford it.

Cold store is also called cold room & cold warehouse. It uses refrigeration equipment to make suitable temperature and humidity for special cargo. Cold store can be work shop and warehouse for the cargo which need to store under low temperature or frozen environment. Cold store can prevent cargo from climate and enlarge the storage time.

 

Cold store is widely used in food, agriculture, yoghurt & milk, pharmacy, chemical, hotel, supermarket, hospital, blood station and laboratory…etc.

 

To enlarge storage capacity, most cold store also need pallet racking or drive in racking for it

The design rule for cold store racking is similar with normal racking system, the major difference should be material and surface treatment. Normal powder coating treatment may not suit for temperature and humidity condition in cold store, customer should choose special powder or galvanized treatment to ensure the racking won’t become rusty.

 

Refer to the material of cold store, it should be a bit stronger and flexible than normal material.

Q235 and Q345 should be workable for cold store. Customer should pay attention for the material for cold store as poor material will have inflection under long time use or even collapse.

There was a racking collapse in Zheng Zhou city several years ago and more than 10 workers died from it. The owner of racking factory was sent into prison because he use poor material in the project.
